Because NASCAR is most smartest they've decided the Sonoma race will be the same days as the Sahlens 6 Hours of Watkins Glen. But because sports cars i know where I'll be June 28th of next year.
A pair of snakes
Guess I'll be on TV!

Nobody watches sportscar racing. It won't affect NASCAR at all.

Im not talking about NASCAR being hurt. Im talking about how IMSA will be affected by this. When you're competing with NASCAR it's not easy to get the ratings we need.

I think the people that do watch IMSA will still watch it over a NASCAR race though, don't you? I do see where your coming from though, it's like INDYCAR, if It's not scheduled opposite a NASCAR race, I'll tune in. If I have to choose INDYCAR loses.

Well obviously the hardcore will watch IMSA. I'm talking the need for the casual to be able to say yeah I'll watch sports cars at Watkins Glen and not NASCAR.

The last few years we had an open day just for the Sports Car day. We had no competition, now we do.

I completely see where your coming from, I misunderstood at first thinking you were saying NASCAR would lose viewers over it. But you are right it is stupid of NASCAR to take away from IMSA since they run both now.

They basically just gave the teams the week before Sonoma off. They should have given that weekend the 6 hours off so they can rest between Sonoma and Daytona.

Side note unrelated to the conversation, but I took a driving course at Mid Ohio in the summer of 1996, and Brian Till was one of the instructors. I got to ride a couple of laps with him driving and he rode with me a few laps giving tips.
Related: Those of us that want to watch sports cars will still watch...but it's bad for the sport when NASCAR doesn't have the presence of mind to avoid stomping it out with their bigger race series.

I'm curious as to why you think that matters. The classes are entirely different and are on entirely different sides of the country. This would be no different than if IndyCar schedules a race at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama on the same day, completely different classes and markets, doubtful to compete against one another.
Of course TV ratings are a different story, but I'm not touching that one.

I completely I forgot about the time difference. That last hour will be one of the most important thing for rating but I'll avoid that topic.

I won't be watching the Sonoma race. Then again, I don't watch NASCAR anymore so...
